Tricks and tips for Wc3 Modeling
on: December 01, 2012, 11:26:42 PM

Hi there everyone! I am aware that the model creating part of this community is not very active so, I thought this would spice things up! The purpose of this topic is to discuss any tricks that you use during the process of creating a model. This can be anything from things you learned yourself to things others have taught you. I ask that you make note of what modeling programs you use. This way if someone is interested in creating models or trying something you shared, they will know what program you use so, they can try it themselves.

I know this is a double post but, I didn't want to start the discussion in the introduction. Anyway, I usually create doodad and building models due to the fact that I am better at designing structures rather than characters. However, when I do create characters I try to find creative ways to use ingame textures for example, The Masked Rose this is a model I made a while ago (it needs rigging and fixed), the skin of the woman uses the Dreadlord texture. This texture does not have many areas of revealed skin so, I spent some time thinking about how I would go about wrapping the chest. I tried finding a texture that had the same skin tone but, to no avail.  That is when, (after a lot of modifying the wrap) I found that when in doubt about the chest of a female character using the dreadlord texture, the ear is the way to go! Mainly the point of sharing this is, I'm saying to be creative when it comes to wrapping a model with ingame textures some of the strangest, most off the wall things can work.

I was going to re-size it with the [IMG] bbcode but, I couldn't get it to work properly. The image is too large in my opinion...

Well that is one hell of a creative model. That robe of the necromancer fits perfectly.

Thanks, it took a lot of re-wrapping to get the necromancer texture to fit that well.

Hmmm, this made me think about developing a UVwraping modification tutorial. I've done several rewraps to models in order to get customizations on units.

In these holidays I expect to get some time for develop this.

That would be quite helpful to some. Rewraps and minor customization are usually what I do with units as well. :)
